E90 2012 320d to extend motorplan or not?

Hi guys

This my first post here and will really appreciate any advice on the following. I hope I do not repeat questions asked before

I own a 2012 (registered March 2012) Space Grey 320d Auto Exclusive E90 with current mileage of only 57 800 km. I extended the BMW motorplan at the end of 2016 for an additional 12 months at a cost of R 13 500. I was quoted R 17 600 to extend for another 12 months at latest 31 December 2017 to 31 December 2018 which I think is a bit steep considering the condition of my car (parked in garage 90% of the time and a couple of very small marks) and the mileage I do per year (around 8000 per year as I work from home). It went in for a service last week here in Paarl at the dealership and all they are doing at each service, including this one, is to change all the filters and oil apart from something small on the radio last year which apparently cost about R 3 000. The brake pads at the back was done about 25 000 km ago. All 4 run flat tyres were replaced on 49 500 km last year at a cost of about R 9 500 by me. So I basically paid R 13 500 for one minor service which was probably worth about R 2 000 this year? The next service is only due December 2018. So I would like to know if I decide to sell the car towards the end of next year will I get a much better price if there is an active motorplan on the vehicle or will the difference be minimal i.e. less than R 17 600?

I am looking to maybe upgrade at that stage to a late 2016 or 2017 F30 320d Auto M Sport in Grey or Astoria Blue with low mileage and would like to buy cash with no HP.

At the moment my feeling is to rather sell privately as the trade in they are offering at this stage at the dealership is daylight robbery considering the condition of my vehicle. So would you also suggest I rather then I am ready to advertise on a forum like this to find a suitable buyer or even maybe someone who will sell to me privately and hopefully get a better deal for both parties?

In My Opinion , Not really worth it.
I got my 2011 model last August (2016) with a month of MP left, was also quoted 13.5k for another year.
I did not extend.

Since last August I have only spent on below.

1) R1700 - Oil and brake fluid Service at agents
2) R7000 - My one control arm was slightly bent and bush worn, I decided to have all 4 arms changed with poly bushes , upper and lower , right and left. I also did tie rod ends and stabilizer links , these were still in good nick but had them replaced as future preventative maintenance and also the workshop labour was cheaper as they were already busy with the arms.
3) R5000 New set of Non-Runflat tyres – Note these would not be covered in Mplan anyway


From the research ive done, these are non troublesome Motors , between 120,000km – 150,000km check Vibration damper and replace if necessary, also a gearbox service at ZF would be good idea.
Your normal wear and tear items like brake pads, discs and sensors can be pricey at agents but not that bad if done by an Indy.

I won't extend as well.
Haven't changed anything big on my car. First maintenance/pre caution maintenance was boost housing seals. Cost 805bucks from BMW.
Plus extend means no mods. These things really gets alive after some modifications.

57k km on the clock. That's damn nice!

Welkom Jan!

1. These cars have proven to be very reliable, if looked after properly. Furthermore they are not problematic, and they have proven to handle high mileage without a problem (even when modded extensively - they just keep going). Personally I wouldnt sell, unless you really need too. With that type of mileage you can still enjoy the car for quite some time, and the possibly use the extra expense you would have incurred of an F30 to rather settle other debts, or invest elsewhere.

2. Maintenance wise you can look at the following schedule (this is what I follow on my 2011 320d).

Every 10 000km: Oil, oil filter. Get wheels balanced, rotated and aligned and check shocks. Pop a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank

Every 30 000km: Dieselfilter, Air filter, cabin filter (cabin & air filter you can use your own discression. I never drive gravel or dusty roads so 30 000km is fine for me).

Other: Service brake fluid, brake pads and all that as required by OBC. I replaced my Disks @ 150 000km and also the vibration damper pulley too at 150 000km. You might also want to get the gearbox serviced @ 100 000km - quite a few people recommend it

From the above you can see you still have many miles of sheer driving pleasure ahead of you @ relatively low maintenance. MP is overkill in my experience with this car.

Thank you for all the replies, much appreciated! I got the answer that I needed. This means that I am saving an extra R 17 600. ;-)

Yes my car is basically brand new (feels like it when driving) with the low mileage. I never drive on gravel roads.
