Experimental software. Far from being done though as there's a few issues that still needs to be resolved ;) It's a process though and initial results are encouraging.

Due to my lack of availability we haven't had ample time to tune the car more. But so far extremely happy with the OBDWorx software and team. Highly recommended :clapper:

Just a small update on the gearbox oil I changed.

I used the Liqui Moly 75w90 as in this pic

wwzpj_4624440898.jpg

The old oil looked well.. old. Black and stinky and stuff.

The new oil looked, new and also stinky so I didn't expect much change.

I am happy to report though that it has made an overall improvement :) One I would highly recommend to any M owner that hasn't done so yet. Knowing the history of my car inside out I know that motorplan did not change it again after the run in period.

I'm going to do the M3 this week if I can find out whether it has been done or not by Riaan or Shane.

To add I have the LM 75w140 oil as well and want to change the diff oil on both of them. However I'm still a bit sceptical whether it has sufficient friction modifier or not.

The silver M3 seemed to like the oil so I am tempted...

I've done my diff oil with the above LM oil and I've got no complaints.

The only reason BMW used FM in their later oils is because people were complaining about diff whine. People don't realize that LSD's do whine, and by adding FM to the oil it actually limits the LSD's performance.

I used the lm 75 w140 and the whine was terrible at low speeds while turning. I had it for 6 months and did around 1500kms . The thing felt like the tyre was rubbing against the rear suspension or something. I bought the BMW oil with FM in it and got filled up, after a good run in,there is no noise. I prefer not driving around with my car sounding like it is broken.

Give us an update of your experience with this product.

My Z3 M Coupe diff did not like this oil, it started humming after using that oil. Drained it out 2 days later and put in Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75w-140, and the diff was happy again.

The M5 has the castrol syntrax in the diff and its very happy with that. Thanks for the feedback.

I find it interesting that some have negative experience with the LM diff oil hey. I know I sell LM, but in my case it worked brilliant on my car.

Something is afoot and I'll investigate a little more with the guys from LM

Some more videos to watch :)

Nothing has changed except the vanos/cam timing settings fiddled with.

Pity I did not have videos of the before runs however the LSB M3 seen in the following videos is the test reference for all my mods done on this car. Bearing in mind the M3 has also become stronger over time since the inception of this thread.

However for this purpose the video shows what the prior to current vanos setup yielded.

Runs 1 to 3 were from 1st gear rolling and it seems I had the jump on most of them. With my granny shifting it allowed the M3 to claw back. All runs were fairly consistent and I'm happy with the results.

The car is so smooth now and drive-ability is great.

Run 4 was done from 2nd gear rolling.

Run 1

Run 2

Run 3

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/XO2heL2Z80Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Run 4

The previous test would have the M3 ahead between 1 to 2 car lengths. So even though the improvement is small its still a move forward :)

Next up is a revised map to help unleash the cams.

So this last week saw me using the Z as a daily. I noticed the valve traing being a tad louder than normal. Ended up checking the valve clearances and re shimmed all 24 of them. Was surprised to see all of them out of spec by quite a margin. Intakes up to .25 and exhaust .35

They now all measure around .19 intake and .29 exhaust. I am quite pleased with the result and intend to re test with the lsb m3 :)

I must say I love doing valve clearances. And you're right Sash. Ive built up a nice collection of shimms so its quicker and easier than before.

Very satisfying knowing youre gaining power and econony all while it runs quieter :)
