After quite some time my precious received some well deserved TLC.

The victim of said TLC

Cleaning the throttle bodies and Idle control valve for this S54 today. I had some time and after doing this on the M3 last night I simply had to do it on the Z. The smoothness and overall result was very impressive. I could not, not do it on both cars.

Clearly this S54 was a cleaner example to work on. Before pics

I noticed this airbox runners are black and not cream/yellow like in the M3

I used gratuitous amounts of prepsol to clean the intake manifold and icv. And again the liqui moly throttle body cleaner sources from Moranor Axis on the Forum.

Do you have to be worried about the ITB cleaner going in or does it dissipate soon after spraying.

It’s probably a similar chemical composition to carb cleaner and will most likely combust during start up.

Awesome Andy, thanks for sharing.

I think I'll do the same on my M Coupe, it does have a bit of a pop on idle... can no be the vanos as RGM did the seals for me. Could be the ICV.

Great stuff Andy :praise:
On removing the cover to the throttle bodies do you need to replace any of the tensioners or can everything be re-used?

I must agree that putting it onto the track makes you realise what this car is capable of. It's such an eye opener.

Very Small improvement:
When cleaning the car's interior this weekend I decided to put in some effort in on the steering wheel.
I absolutely love this car's steering wheel as it is thick, small, soft and looks great.
After 90K km's however the nice M-stitching has a bit of a faded look, so on E36cab's suggestion I took a toothbrush with a very small amount of water and started gently cleaning up.
After making sure it was dry I applied leather care, I would recommend SONAX as it gives a nice matt finish and is not oily.

Did they do solenoid seals or the actual vanos seals?

Will have to stick with Uncle Pete on this one...lets see

Andy do you have the part numbers of the clips you need to replace when cleaning the Throttle Bodies/ICV?

Today I started prepping the car for Dubrun.

The stock audio is quite poor. So I fitted the rockford fosgate system. All the cabin speakers including the tweeters are upgraded to fosgates. Aside from the stock subs behind the seats.

Subwoofer with custom box and amp in the boot. And I removed the stock subs.

Bear in mind this setup was installed when I originally bought the car. But I immediately removed it upon ownership. Re doing the wiring took most of the time. As it required removing a lot of covers.

Anyways I am really really impressed with the sound now :) I will be driving the car a lot more now too.
