E82 135i N55 overheated

Just as I got home and was busy parking the yellow temp light came on, 10 seconds later the red temp light came on. So car was switched off right away and now I'm waiting for BMW on call to come and pick my car up. Man this is upsetting! Lucky I extended MP 3 months ago or I might have been in deep trouble now. It's gonna go to auto bavaria as it's the closest, would have preferred autobahn simply for the reason that they had it there last week for a holiday check and the car passed everything. Not sure if the cause of the overheating could have been picked up last week so guess will wait before I get too judgemental. Anyway have to scrounge around for a lift to work and back tomorrow and hopefully it's something small and my car will be back soon. Or failing that hope they can sort me out with a loaner.

Waterpump failure. Make them change the thermostat as well.

October last year. It's a great car. Sad to see it on the back of a truck though.

Definitely the water pump. Should not take longer than a day to repair.

Lucky still on MP, it’s a R10k fix out of MP at an independent repairer.

I assume your mileage is around the 100K mark

Mine went at 140K

BMW on call sending a 320i rental. They only allow 5 days though so hope that's enough time to sort it out.

Auto bavaria has called me, but only to let me know the car is there. So no idea when they will have a look at it. Obviously the service cars booked in take priority.

let us know what was wrong!
Soon as I know will do so. I asume if it's the water pump that they will see if anything was damaged. Not sure how long it takes for the sensors to pick up there is a problem. From the time the yellow light came on and then red to car switched off was about 15 seconds.

My word , she is still new!
hope you get it sorted, with that mileage under Mplan I would want everything cooling related to be replaced , Water Pump, thermostat, Radiator etc.

Previous owner had the car garaged pretty much all the time. Cpl weekend trips only. When I got her the avg per year was 8500km. I have added 14000km since October as it's my daily. I have seen a Cpl threads where it's mentioned when a 'garage queen' changes to a daily some mechanical items can pack up. Not sure how true that really is though.

Ok. As everyone predicted. Waterpump and thermostat being replaced. Should have her back tomorrow or latest Thursday.
