E70 X5 3.0D fuel issue

Hi everyone. So I recently bought this X5 with the strangest problem. The van would struggle to start on certain random occasions. Just crank and crank but no start until I put in more diesel (tank shows 3/4). After I put in more It starts right up. Aftet many hours of reading and understanding of the X5 fuel system I decided to pull the back seat (7 seater). This is what I found. A physically broken fuel pump hanging in the tank by the wires. So working but laying sideays inside the tank and only getting fuel when the level is at a certain point (higher than the pump). My question is where can I buy the fuel pump assembly/housing? Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Post your location for a bit more accurate advice.

If in GP, you can try MD House in Wynburg.

It would help the forum if you have 'Cape Town' in your location instead of ZA.:=):

Have the exact same issue. Have to keep the car above quarter tank. This cant find the time to find another pump assembly. If you come across one please share:ty:

Ok so cant find a housing or a fuel pump for a decent price so decided to fix it. Product is called Pratley SP001. Says its diesel, oil and chemical resistant so fingers crossed. Will be putting in some reinforcements in case the glue doesnt hold.

It's worth a try. However the vibrations from the pump will eventually break it again. Should give you some time to find a replacement.

Clifton's is the only other really likely to have.

Have you tried inputting the part numbers into Realoem and seeing if they were perhaps used on other cars, as I know the motor is shared between many different models.

Yes the x5 housing only works on that. Pump works on various models. Even the petrol ones housing is slightly different with more or less openings etc that would need to be added or blocked so no go.

Just a random guy who had only the housing as his pump packed up. I used my own pump and float/sensor. I did ask for you but only the one sorry
