I just stumbled onto another forum where this was discussed. Apparently it could be done on the old SMGII from the E46 because they were both essentially the Getrag 420G. So with a new bellhousing, clutch, shifter and neutral return spring the SMG II could be converted to manual.
This doesn't seem to be the case with the SMG III. Theoretically it could be done, but the shift pattern is crazy and would not make any sense spending the time and effort to convert it to manual.
My dream of owning a M6 manual seems all but gone :blueCry:

My buddy has told me that there is one in Secunda as well. Apparently the guy works at Pinnacle auto (BMW dealership). Haven't seen it for myself though, so I can't confirm
