E60 M5 tranny conversion

Hi Guys

I'm sure there is a thread about this but I cant find it, can anyone here advise me on either a place or a rough estimate on doing a manual conversion on a e60 m5.

I've seen a couple now with tranny issues for quite cheap but would still prefer a good one and then doing the conversion anyhow.:rollsmile:

Well theres one in benoni for R169k with clutch issues, one in edgecomb with 2nd gear issues for I think R140k but its alos a code 3, and I found one at a dealer about 4 months ago in JHB for R155k also with tranny problems.

But I must admit after going to see those except the one in durbz, and doing some research on the conversion, I think ill rather just get one thats 100%, I get nervous when a car like this has less then 100k km on with no service history

I would be very cautious to buy an M5 for +-R150 000 I hope your rainy day fund is just as big :tiptoe:

Very true. These cars can sink you if they weren't looked after and serviced correctly. Rather pay the premium and have trouble free motoring

E92 M3 box is the same bellhousing afaik,so should the clutch and associated the problem comes into coding the DME the north american m5's came in manual. so maybe just custom DME coding?

For sure, I was just checking first, after research I found it'l still be better to buy one with no issues and proper service then a shady one and do repair, but thanks.

OK so this one is interesting to me, I don't really care for the code 3 as I can send it back to AA and if its been repaired right they can reverse the code 3 to a code 2 for insurance purposes and if its not repaired 100% my family is in the panel beating services and they can assist with repairs.

The worry to me is the 2nd gear issue, can anyone here tell me what the worst case scenario will be.

I've seen SMG boxes going for about R50k... Theres an M6 stripping somewhere in Northern Joburg, can't remember the place. Rather get a complete box, in my opinion. Worst case, a new one is R150k I think.
Coupled with the price of the car, you'd still be good somewhat.

Depending if the repairs are ok, of course.
