E60 Foggy Headlight

Hi Guys,

I'm refreshing my 5'res headlights, will more then likely use a restoration kit, like what Turtle Wax offers.

This is of course an external application which does not address my right front, which has some fogginess internally.

I had a brief YouTube dig and it seems one needs to be pretty brutal in the process of opening the light fitting / casing, which leads me to believe these things weren't made to be opened.

Any advise, perhaps someone who can repair the issue?

Please tell me what you are using to take the foggyness off the headlights. I tried using sandpaper but cannot get 2000 grit sandpaper locally. Have also tried toothpaste but maybe i should brush longer, it does not make much of a difference!! :dunnoanymore:

OK, found some promising advice.

Apparently one should remove the headlight, introduce pure methanol and swish it around for 3 - 4 minutes, obviousness on the lens only. This to be repeated a couple of times.

I'll report on the, hopefully success once I've done it, perhaps there are others with the same issue.

Hi Solo, the fogginess is internal bud. I'm sure you are talking about an external issue??

I believe the process of restoring the headlight externally is to remove the old coating completely, and then applying a new one, like a clear coat (paint). I'm going to try a kit i saw Turtle Wax has.
