E60 Diesel automatic transmission service

I am appalled to learn that the E60 Diesel transmission filter is integrated into the transmission oil sump. Therefore, to replace the filter and oil, one would need a new transmission sump (with the integrated filter), +/- 10 litres of long - life transmission fluid. Total cost, including labour, at the dealership is R10k . On the plus side, the changes are now imperceptible.

I had the auto box in my Z4 serviced by ZF in JHB for R4K in December 2015.

This included the oil, sump / filter assembly & mechatronic sleeve.

So send it to ZF.

I'm taking delivery of an e39 530d (at *last*) on Monday. I'd like to get it proactively serviced for my own peace of mind, can someone send me ZF's details so I can take it to him?

Thanks!

I'm taking Stiaan's E60 530d m/s in for service at ZF tomorrow. He was quoted R4,5k for the service including megatronics sleeve, oil, filter, etc. Will report back as to actual cost when i am back.

E39 uses a GM box which Zf wont touch. Get the filter kit from Bmw and take the car to budler to do it. :coolShake:

I had my 2003 E53 X5 with the GM box serviced at ZF here in the CApe when Nico was still here, he did not complain about doing it. Also, took Stiaan's E60 530d (his is a six speed ZF auto) in for gearbox service yesterday, was R4500 plus vat and i was impressed how thorough they were as they have a special machine to replace the old oil in the oil cooler as well as the torque converter. They also added a special cleaner as well as oil additive for the price. Took about 4 hours though! Will be taking mine in for service in the near future. They claim it should be done every 60k kms for a loooong gearbox life and peace of mind.
