So the stealers want R2017 for my battery and Battery Centre wants R1500 for what they say is an OEM battery for my car. It a 663 SD or something like that. Also a 90A battery. He claimed that it is original BMW :dunno:

Thanks man. At least I know that it is like for like then :=):

No wondering whether a close bet will hold out for almost 6 years. This one is on its way out and with the cold setting in, I am gonna be a sitting duck one of these mornings.

The OE battery is made by First National Batteries in East London  . It is the same as the batteries supplied to battery centre , colour may be different in some cases ( White -OE , black -aftermarket )
Also check for Varta ( May have 24 month guarantee )

Who keeps Varta? Don't think that I have seen this brand anywhere. :dunno:

Just get the OE battery from Battery Centre. My original battery in the 325i was only replaced last year August and I bought the 325i in November 2003.

I am between 2 options now. I can get the 663 which is a 90A battery (OEM) or the 658 which is is a 100A battery for a few rands less.

I just need to check the dimensions

Varta is an imported European brand, very expensive (just replaced my Discovery at R4000), Varta is the only battery that produces the required output to run all it's electronics.

Tried the biggest Willard 658, but the car battled with gear changes and the air suspension.

Take it from me, these electronics on the car is full of crap, go OEM or at least the exact specs (hA & CCA ratings)

My Discovery OEM is a Varta 90aH with 950 CCA (Cold Cranking Amps), tried the Willard 95aH with 850 CCA, problems with the D3 with the Willard:
1 Cannot engage low range gearbox
2 The HK sound system's amp does not switch on
3 Air suspension can not raise to it's full off road mode

Good luck , hope it lasts . Raylite brand ?

Thanks & yeah Raybimmer. Just branded with the BMW stickers when they leave FNB (not the bank) in P.E.

The previous was closing in on 7 years so I think that it is very decent based on all the electronics on this car. Oh, and not that it makes a any difference to me since the battery is completely hidden but it does make a difference to the price in a small way, as the batteries that are white in colour are generally more costly since they are moulded from virgin plastic and not recycled, which results in the colour of the battery being black.
