First time I have had equal results across all cylinders.

I'm not sure if clearly visible ...plugs burning perfectly

I really must get some of our more capable fanatics to spend some time with me and the camera.

Crash you listening?......

Impressive. Also makes me happy to know that the beast lurking beneath my hood must be a very happy customer if it managed 150-155 with 110K more on the clock.

Walt if it gets run in properly at the outset the subsequent Ks really do not affect these motors.

For the sake of clarity this is the second owner of this car and along with the vanos we are doing an Inspection 2.
One of the downfalls of Motorplan below. I suspoect that the fuel filter will tell a similar tale,

The discolouration in the motor has been caused by observing the BMW recommended service intervals.

Given the overall condition of the car I am able to establish that it has not been abused or neglected.

It then follows that buying a car with full agent service history although comforting says very little in reality.

Pump disc is on its way to get drilled.

I am quietly optimistic that the motor will clean out very quickly with a few oil treatments and a bit of "brush help".

More pics later

Im shocked at the discolouration of that low mileage motor...:yuck:

Also, where is the extra black sponge bit from that air filter? You most definitely right about the fuel filter, it will be the original one for sure and yet its cheaper to replace than a M54 one...

I can not really see, but it seems like the ate stamp on the air filter is very old, glad to see that the Austrians can at least make something as well.

The BMW oil change interval is still mind boggling for me...

Keep up the good work :bravo:

I shall pay by the m/s.

I suspect that I need to use the correct lens of which I have 3 and only use 1 constantly.

RTFIM is not my forte.

Amazing car this my word!
Also amazed at the discolouration. Must make sure that the oil service is halved. Gosh.

Will the lack of use also cause the discolouration?

Lack of use will not cause discolouration.

Lack of oil changes will though.

Typically the car will be started allowed to idle and get hot and then switched off.

This done repeatedly without the concomitant oil changes will present with fuel contaminated, old oil and the discolouration soon follows.

Equally when a car is driven very hard and then switched off immediately,it will allow the fumes to settle on the components to the degree where one cannot move a cam follower on the shaft to change shims. (Had one of those).

Best practice would be for oil to be changed annually on cars that do not see use but are started regularly and left to idle.

Peter can you comment on the use of NGK plugs (as fitted to this fine example) vs OEM Bosch on the e46 ///M ?
