That is unfortunately what they cost. I had a figure of about R950 in my head.
I have to swop out my windscreen now and with my cowl being 'slightly' cracked only, the glass shop told me to get a new one in the meantime as the old one will definitely break beyond repair when they swop out the windscreen.

I would think that a 'little' black silicone wipes over the flexible part at an early enough stage would help prevent this. If you have already started losing chunks, then maybe it's too late.

BTW, a broken cowl would not let water inside the car, it will drain out inside the engine bay. Not ideal for things like rust in the long run, but at least no damage to the interior can occur.

why must BMW design these things so damn cheaply:argh::thumbdo:

makes me flippin sick, that a premium car has so many cheap plastic bits, dont get me wrong there is definitely parts on the car thats been designed really strong but its like certain areas was an after thought. :nonono:

Can it not be claimed from insurance if you need to replace your windscreen? I had my windscreen replaced due to a few stone chips. Maybe that can be replaced as well. Just a thought:fencelook:

Maybe make arrangements with the glass fitment center beforehand to include it in the quotation or get them to specify that it's necessary to be replaced in order to form a seal.

Bud,

At R850 you go and grab the thing with both hands.

You are insanely lucky that you can even get, and thats a frikken bargain.

With the hail damage, I have replaced so many cowel panels its unreal, there are none in scrapyards cause all the panel shops bought them already, and half the time the part is on back order for like a month.

850 is what I pay on a cowel panel on a Hyundai Atos, let alone on a BMW.

Spent R1,300 on a cowel panel today on a Elantra I think.

Would be interested to know if you do manage to get it covered by insurance so please provide an update:=):
