Does it not only happen when you hold the lock button (for the function that closes windows and sunroof as well)?

Because my 1 window is busted, and if I press the lock button once nothing slides down. It's only when I hold the auto close function that it will use the mechanism

Philip Foglar posted about a place in Pinelands I think that does the menchanisms for a decent price. Will see if I can find the thread

you can re program the key for the actions it needs to take and exclude the window closing function. well you can on a e 90, this should be available to you on e46 as well. :fencelook:

Just a heads up about the pinelands guy. I used him when he replaced my e46's mechanism. It failed after three months. I returned it to him, he removed it, riveted the cables back and said that the mechanism is failing because I have tinted windows:fencelook:

Two weeks later it failed again. I went to Cliftons M3 in Maitland and got a mechanism from them. I fitted it myself using a DIY from this forum and had no issues since. I would recommend doing it yourself as its quite simple. Alternatively, get the guy in Pinelands to do the fitting with your own part as his are Chinese junk. My R0.02 :=):
