my car is a 2005 e46, This week i notice a high pitch squeeling sound when at slow speeds, eg. when i start to move slowly , it is noticable but when speed increase above say 20km/h then it dissapears. It does not sound like engine noise , i think it comes from the wheels.

i know my parking drum should be replace because its shot but cant see how that might be part of the cause

If its coming from the rear it might be the hand brake unit or shoes inside the rear brake disk.

I replaced my discs a few months back, including the hand brake shoes, and new disc pads.

Its easy to do yourself, and there are plenty of DIY threads available on this.

Good luck

How much did it cost you to do yourself,

Depends on where you source your spares...

I'm here in Pretoria, and know some people at parts places, paid as follows:

Rear Discs - R224 each
Brake pads for the set - Ferodo - R310
Brake shoes (can't remember the brand) - R288
