E46 SHUTTLE OR CHANGE TO FRONT LOADER

Hi Guys!

As some of you will have noticed I am new to the forum & as a BMW owner!
Still trying to figure out how to attach the smilies???

Firstly thanks for the help sorting out the tail warning light!

The shuttle mag was damaged when I bought the car. The dealer is trying to find a replacement. However, after pulling the shuttle out this morning, it looks worse than just the mag.

I bought one of those frequency transmitter things, what a piece of rubbish!
After doing some web surfing, I am thinking of replacing the head unit with the BMW cd frontloader.

Any suggestions on the following:
Do I replace the shuttle unit, or would it be better in the long run to put in the front loader?

I would prefer to stay away from aftermarket products as this will spoil the authenticity of the car.

Do any of you have or know of cd front loaders for sale?

I'm currently living near Port Alfred - EC. But am moving back to Pretoria in a couple of weeks.

Thanks
Cheers
JM

Finding a radio is a mission. That said, if you are going to start hunting for one try and find a cdr 53 Alpina unit(IIRC). They can play back mp3 and has AUX option.

If you can get the shuttle sorted do it. The front loader can only take 1 CD

I have a front loader. does not play mp3's so don't waist your time personally.

the aux cable for the radio from bmw is R680. no ways am I paying that.

so this is making think of going tablet install.

but there might be hope I will find out on Thursday

Thanks Dewald. If the front loader plays mp3's that's cool. Been making mp3 discs for ages. You can put 130+ songs on an mp3 disc.

Guess it will come down to cost.

I was looking into the aux option, I may me mistaken, it seems like the shuttle has to work for the aux to run, specifically on the 2002, 2003 models. Mine is a 2003

Thanks!

Thanks Guys!

I'll pull out the radio this weekend & check the part number.
Finding a 2nd hand shuttle or front loader for that matter is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Have a tit weekend !:joy:

It can be done but you will not find it on the internet. You will have to go dumpster diving at the scrap yards

Yeah,I have phoned a few scrape yards & BMW spares places, none of them have.
If I don't find one in the next week or so, I'll wait til I get back to GP.
I am sure I'll find either one, once I am back in the land of the living!
