E46 Service Interval Question

Hi guys

I just had a look at the service book of a 318i Exclusive.
The service instervals are every 40k done by BMW? First one at 40K second at 80K?
This car was in motorplan.

Is this right? Isn't the interval every 25k?

the interval is determined by your driving style. if you drive gingerly, your 25k km's might become 35 or 40 thousand.

Is this stated by BMW? Never heard of anything like this before.
Have you seen this?

This is true. I have been driving 'not-so-gingerly' and my service interval meter ran down quickly. Instead of the 15000km interval (I have a diesel) I actually traveled just over 11000km before the computer showed me I am due for a service.

Since my last service however, I have been traveling 'gingerly', and I currently have like 7000km to go till my service and I am 450km AHEAD of my service indicator, which means that (if I continue to drive like a granny) I would have traveled 15450km since my last service.

BUT getting up to 40000km from a petrol car...I DON'T THINK SO...

I dunno that sounds mighty suspicious. I was under the impression that the 25k kms was the maximum interval and your driving style can only reduce it.

i wouldn't drive 40k after my service...i mean can u imagine what the oil looks like....

this is also the first i have heard about this....

That does not sound right. Petrol cars are 25000km and diesels are 15000km

Yep thats the interval i know but yes its not exactly 25000km that counter depends on your drive style.

Ok to close of this topic

I managed to get a complete service history from BMW and the car was serviced as per normal. +- every 25K kilos.

Don't know where the dealer came up with the 40K crap.

Interesting, quite a large distance between services.....my E36 used to ask for a service every 14000km, depending how I drove, but it didn't use synthetic oil.
