Hi,

I need to do a decat on a 2002 E46 N42.

Called around Noise boys in CBD wants R4000 without a silencer. Other places don’t seem to know what they’re talking about.

Anyone around Pretoria who can help? Cats are clogged and need to come out asap.

R4000 for a piece of pipe and 30min of work? :skit:

Are they doing a complete new exhaust or just decat in that quote?

They literally just need to cut it out, and replace with a straight pipe in that section. At least that is what I did. Was R300 at powerflow a few years ago.

No software updates needed on the N42.

Check for a Powerflow in your area, failing that, contact Powerflow in Randburg, bit of a drive but worth it.

Give Noise Boys Centurion a ring. They removed the mid box on my 330d for around R400-500 a year ago,so they shouldn't charge much more for a decat.

How many cat foolers would be required? Noiseboys quoted for 2 cat foolers and labour = R4000

The N42 engine don't need cat foolers when removing the cat just before the middle silencer box. This is the one I am talking about: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sh...-2003-E46-BMW-318i&diagId=18_0452#18307510680
This is also the one I removed for R300.

Now, if you want to remove the Manifold one...that will be a different story and cost more:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=AY72-EUR-08-2003-E46-BMW-318i&diagId=18_0454
I didn't remove this one.

Is there a specific reason you need to remove both?

Update: Removed middle cat as recommended above done at Noise Boys Hatfield - great quick service if you first in line R450 for removal of dead cat and replace with straight pipe.

Car is much more responsive with not much change to the sound.

I still have a rough cold start in the morning so busy troubleshooting - any suggestions?

I also bought this previously before removing the cat, think it might still be worth it to use to try and give the manifold cats a clean? Anyone tried this before?

When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?

But before we get to starting to replace items, I highly recommend clearing codes, and get them read after a cold start. Its possible 1 or more cylinders missfire only on cold start. It could also be something else.
