The new character is only but a little bigger

You selling the old setup?

Yes that was the intention. However I'm not sure the V3 will fit under the bonnet. If I can't make the ESS kit fit with ease I'll stick to the current setup which is already tuned for and setup.

I'll probably sell the ESS kit back to the previous owner otherwise keep an eye on the Parts for sale section :)

Good news!!! The VF fits! Its not final yet as I still have to do the plumbing and move the powersteering reservoir (extend hoses etc) but for now it fits and clears everything.

I also still have to fit another tensioner and find the correct belt and clock the charger. And then make 100% sure the alignment is correct else the belts wont last.

Also finished cleaning the deck of the block. Fitted the new headgasket and located the head. Still have to torque the head and attach all the bits and bobs.

Fitted the coolant pipe, chain tensioner, chain guides so long. Cleaning everything is a tedious process...

Howzit Andy. It was good to meet (first Fanatic) at Zwartkops today.

Epic build. I'll be following this. Maybe - once I have learned to driver properly around a track - this will be done to track car also...won't mind a power slide here and there for grin factor.

Likewise man always nice to bump into a fanatic when you least expect it! Nicely done on your E36 you should start a thread and inspire some guys.

Hahaha thanks for the comments guys!

Not so sure about the power part, aiming more for reliability for peace if mind.

Torqued the head according to spec. Oiling the bolt washers then 30nm starting from inside working out sequentially ending at the front and rear. Theres lots of pics depicting the order.

Then 90 deg

Then another 90 deg

As a matter of interest i set the torque wrench to 100nm to see where it would settle. The higher elevated bolts (intake side) seemed to get very near to 90 deg and 100nm simultaneously. And the lower (exh side) seemed to reach 100nm anywhere from 60deg onwards.

nice andy , the angle regarding the torque wrench, is that to show if there is variation in the measurement due to the angle of the wrench itself or differences in the head?

Fastening (Torque) with a force is not as accurate as an angle. Variables in resistance can give you the same force (torque) but won't equate into the same clamping force. Angle on the other hand negates the variables and gives more consistent and accurate clamping force onto the head.

I'm sure there's smarter okes that can explain it better

Here is another quick searched link

Do you have the SC oil?
Hahaha finding a sc kit wont be easy. Mobil jet II jet engine oil does the trick. Luckily I have access to that :)
