Not ideal for when you start seeing 120degs plus iirc.

I dont know about others, but I have taken my ex e46 M3 on a track day with limited number of consecutive laps, and never even saw 110 deg C oil temp.

women drivers :)

Pass raiding always resulted in a 3/4 indication on the oil temp needle from halfway up the run to the top, then a nice sedate 5min cruise to allow things to cool before it was time for beers. Even spirited highway driviving was prone to show 105-110degs.

I would not say that. Oil rathings is a rabbit hole one can lose your mind in.

Peter posted a wall of text in Axis subform regarding engine oils.

Porsche is happy with a 0/5W 40 setup for the GT3's, so is Ferrari with the 458 and you know how those things rev, but as far as i know they also say 10-60 for hot climate/track days.

It is a topic of great controversy. After seeing the Z4M at 60k km with worn bearings it changed my mind a bit.

The theory goes that the thicker 10w60 not only lacks cold start protection but also lacks evacuating the bearings properly. It just takes one poor judgement (cold hard rev) to damage the bearings and once they're worn through they eat away quite quickly.

The thinner lighter 10w50 or 0w40 would solve both those problems.

Only thing I'm worried about is that oil consumption might take place.

Oh and not to forget to mention the thinner oil won't strain the oil pump as much and free up some engine drive losses (MOAR POWER :) )

In general i agree. But for tracking/mountain roads it's probably best to stick to the 60. Anywher else 0w-40 should work fine.
