I have quite a loud noise when i engage the clutch in 1st, especially when i put the clutch in quickly. i get i very loud "rattle" from underneath the car. I also notice the noise when i drive over a speed bump with the clutch engaged. sounds if something is loose under the car. Not too sure if it's a problem with the drive train or clutch?

Can someone please try and give me some advise?

Is this rattle sound like marbles rolling around in a can?
If you hear it when the car is in neutral, and the clutch released, then its the gearbox shafts rattling.
Some BMW's do exhibit this noise.
If its as described above - Its normal!

The noise is only there when i put the clutch in. There is no noise in neutral. It's a pretty loud rattle as i engage the clutch. BMW tell me its a drive train noise & that its normal, im not too sure????

Hmmm, the noise i'm describing is only there, when the clutch is released (foot off the pedal) and in neutral.

This is most likely what i have described (neutral and clutch released). Nothing to worry about.

Some recommend changing the gearbox oil. Royal purple syncromax (i think) is recommended. Maybe someone else can comment. I haven't tried it....
