e46 interior trim

Well I assumed that it was due to the spaces where the trim fit (apart from the centre console) that are not completely rigid and can bend ever so slightly that the trim does not line always fit 100% perfect, we have 3 e46's at home and all the trim fits slightly different (in a very small way of course).

Maybe post a couple of pics of the problems you have.

im not sure if it is a problem i mean it bothers me but coming from a jewellery back round i find imperfections in everything...

ill post pics :) if you have a chance could you post some pic of where you e46s dont line up and i can see if i can make any sense of it :)

i noticed when i took my rear door card off that because of the metal strip in the trim i could bend the trim slightly without breaking it so adjustment can be made :)

but like i said if the door card distorts its pointless for me to bend them to fit my car when the door card it is going into is not the same...

Sorry for taking so long with the pics :) I was a bit busy (read: I forgot).

This is the front door trim, you can see the the top part of the trim does not sit as flush with the handle as the bottom part.

Now compare this with the trim on our other e46's

You can see they all fit a bit different

This is what the gap between the radio trim and passenger side trim look like on my car

And the other car's

my door trim fits like this

but my dash trim looks perfect

maybe the fitting issues are not that bad and i should not worry about it when i do the trim panels?
what do you think i mean bmw send them out like that?

I agree, if you are planning to work with (and sell) standard trim then you don't need to worry about it fitting well.
I think the problem comes in due to the fact that the material into which the plugs that hold the trim is kinda spongy so it give way a little when you push the trim in thus not allowing 100% perfect and identical fit each time.
But like I said this is not a problem as these this are usually not even noticeable.
