E46 Heated rear window question

Hi,

Does the outside temperature sensor control the heated rear window switch? My reason for asking is that the switch is on every time I switch on the ignition, outside temp registers as -40. I know I need a new sensor, but does it control the heated rear window switch?

Does anyone who owns an E46 320i or any other E46 have the heated rear window switch turn on every time they turn on the ignition?

I have an E46 but I've never seen my switch on when I start the car, but then again my car has also never seen -40 temp.

It's possible because of the temp sensor that it will come on automatically during harsh conditions.
