e46 CCV/PCV question

Based on our Southern African climate... how many people with higher mileage cars have had to change their CCV/PCV system on their cars because of a failed diaphragm that can cause oil to get sucked from the sump? or perhaps because of vacuum related issues?

the overseas guys seem to have plenty issues with this, but appears mostly because of their cold climates. when i re-placed the rocker cover on my car a little while back, i found some of those CCV pipes to be quite fragile..so im looking at this as more of a preventative thing to do in the next few months.

the whole kit can bought for about $130 online, and i found a good youtube video on doing this without needing to lift the intake. does it seem like a necessary thing to consider though?

if anyone is interested in that youtube install video, have a look here:

I had mine done a while back. Some of the hoses were very brittle. Also, I had a slight misfire on start up when cold, and when very very cold outside, the misfire became so bad that the car really became undrivable.

Well worth it. Was about 5k if I remember correctly. Think it was the 4 hoses, and the CCV.

thanks for that info.... its good to know that they can be a problem then. can you remember what mileage you were on when this happened?

thanks!

My mileage is very low. My car is a 2001, with 123 000km on the clock.
I replaced it at about 115 000km.
