E46: Can stock CD shuttle be replaced with non-BMW brand?

I'm soon buying my dad's old E46 318i but I'm used to having a MP3 CD front loader in my current car.
I want to know whether it's possible to replace the stock BMW CD shuttle with e.g. a JVC MP3 CD front loader ?

Yes, get a single DIN bezel from a place like Auostyle and depending on the connections of you JVC, you get an adapter cable from BMW. :thumbsup:

I assume you are wanting to remove the standard head unit and cd shuttle setup and install a front loading MP3 Head unit ?

You just repeated yourself,

The shuttle is the box in the boot,

The front loader is the head unit or the thing in centre console inside the car.

Yes that's what I'm trying to say
I want to remove the shuttle and replace it with the JVC mp3 player.

Just leave the shuttle in the boot, and replace the head unit with your JVC, following what Hellas said in his post. You will of course not have use of the shuttle (I think)

Unless you want to actually replace the shuttle with a front loader, ie keeping the JVC front loader in the boot, then I have no idea.

Another option is to keep the BMW radio in the front and replace the shuttle with an after market one that can read mp3's CDs.

What is this DIN bezel you are referring to ?

Could you maybe give a detailed explanation of your solution?

The DIN (roughly) refers to the size of the headunit. Single DIN is the standard HU and double DIN is the double width units that usually have a screen of some sort.

What you are looking for is the template (bezel) to fit a standard single DIN into the shaped dash of the BMW.

it is a very simple job but yo have to take off the side moldins first to get to the screws to take out the bmw radio
