E46 Boot

So Earlier today I pressed the key to open the boot and nothing happened, moved slightly closer and pressed again and still nothing lol I panicked and pressed to open the doors and it worked *whew* so I went inside and pressed the boot release button and it still didn't open, The key did the trick but I can't live like that

Any suggestions what to fix or check? I went through some threads and they were mostly dead ends to the solution.

I would 1st have a look at the wiring harness going to the boot. That rubber boot thing by the rear window. Please disconnect the battery before you start working.

Hi, i have a similar problem on my 2005/6 E60 five series. Had a look on Realoem and found that most models, including the E46, E90, 1 Series and the E60 five series (i did not check further as these cars are the most commonly found in scrap yards bar the 5er), but they all use the same (even same part number) bootlid lock. I could not believe it but these locks are being used on a lot of cars. I am going to get a secondhand bootlid lock from a scrap yard and ask if i could quickly check it on my car by removing the bootlid liner before i go and checking if it really is the lock that is the problem. I suggest you do the same! I sincerely hope that that is the problem as i have checked to see if there is current at the lock and there is. I have also checked the wiring going to the boot and there is no signs of wear or chaffing.

Good Evening

Hi I Also did check the wire leading to the boot and all was intact and no tear or anything and I was just not sure what was the problem, tried it like 3 times till tracker called asking why is the battery being disconnected.
I'll go past booysens & selby when i get a chance and ask them to help with what you mentioned, hope it works.

*fingers crossed*
