E46 330i VS E90 320d

so i guy literally forced me off the road, saying he WANTS my car...i laughed and said sorry she's not for sale.

he eventually forced my cell number out of me and said he will call me again this weekend.

it might be a blessing in disguise as my company is moaning about my fuel bill so a 320d might be a good idea.

what are the common problems experienced on E90 320d's (will be doing some google homework but would appreciate local feedback)

here's what caught my eye...particularly like the i-drive one

I would be concerned, said person sounds dodgy.. :fencelook:

The E46 330i is a timeless masterpiece of a car, I would not sell it unless you absolutely must. My 2c. I owned a F30 320d, frugal and reliable engine, besides that, nothing else to write home about, sorry that is my honest opinion

If you want something frugal and still relatively fun, why not go for a E90 330d. IMHO best of both worlds.

Personally i wont touch any of these, in the 320d you'd want the N47t engine (late 2010 and up)...

based on the what has caught your eyes:
link 1: airbag light
link 2: decent, but m47
link 3: well spec'd but once again, m47
link 4: first gen N47 has timing chain issues

You have a new 330i i'd stick with that...just my thoughts:thumbs:

I would choose the E90 320d. The 330i sound good but the 320d is effortless to drive. With SW it will be just as quick as the 330i . Common problems are the the damper pulley and just to regular services.

If your 330i is as clean as I've heard then I wouldn't sell it at all. Better the devil you know than the one you dont.

Link 2 - Clearly a gumtree scammer.
Guaranteed, play along and call him, he'll tell you how the car is not with him and blah blah.
Stay alert when using Gumtree

I disagree. That can't be a scammer. This link? https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-cars-ba...ort-individual-auto/1004140650260911561554709

Sure the user only joined Gumtree in January 2019, BUT.
1. Multiple items listed with consistently the same location and phone number:
https://www.gumtree.co.za/u-seller-listings/sasha-zambetti/v1u115615547p1
2. The phone number is also listed on a local business, same area: http://www.thehandycrew.co.za/thehandycrew-about.html

Fairly certain you will be able to view that car.

As to the op @Tjoppies - Don't sell the 330i. It will be the most difficult task to find another one in great condition.

Personally I would keep the e46 - timeless car and build quality far better than e90, Having had 4 e46's and 1 e90 330i !! I would get a small run around daily for work and pamper the e46. My 2c worth

Don't sell... I know I am biased but what could replace the 330i? In my opinion it is the best daily driver.

The only reason mine is a weekend car is due to my short commute (<5km round trip) and I don't want to damage it with that commute.. Buy a decent cheapy and save your timeless e46 for the weekend, if you need to :smilebounce:

i would probably kick my own butt if i sold it...

but wife has been sort of retrenched , taking a 6k month salary knock , and my company is complaining about my fuel bill , i get 4k a month and end up between 4500-5000 so i need to pay in the difference.

will see if the guy was serious and if he calls/makes a silly R100k + offer
