E46 330i manual VS 330i AUTO...what a difference.

We have compared an e46 325i manual against an e46 330i Auto.

The 325 is always in front up to about 140, and thereafter the 330 only catches and passes it.

Whereas a 330i manual can obviously beat the manual 325i from the get go

Completely agree, also drove an automatic 330i now...

Its horrible.
- Uses a lot more fuel for the same kind of trips. Up from 9.8L/100KM average on manual to 13.2 on automatic
- Automatic is lazy times 10. The manual is however you drive it. Lazy or very energetic, although still lazy vs turbo cars.

Same thing I experienced as well.
But if you adapt your driving style with the auto, you can almost get similar gas mileage to the manual.

The thing is to consciously lift of the gas pedal when you reach your desired speed. But because it feels so lethargic, one's natural reaction is to keep pressing on.

i suppose if you're stuck with an auto one could look at aftermarket torque converters.
