well you are the 1st to say you feel no difference at all after changing the seals... everyone else has reported a moderate to huge difference :)

I take it no codes are coming up?

Sometimes those coils act up intermittently. One minute everything's fine and the next minute you have no power.

Thanks man, will try this, even if it doesn't take the problem away, at least it's one more suspect gone.. Any recommendations on where to buy one?

I know, I also am stunned that I can't feel a difference..

I have been searching non stop for errors everyday, but these are the errors currently on the car

Code:
# ERRORS DETAILS - DTC(hex)/PARAM(hex)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DME   ->  Shadow-memory:
          5A/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 1, signal line, short circuit to negative
          5B/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative
          5D/12 - Exhaust temperature after catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative

ABS   ->
          5E5D/A0 - Brake_fluid_level low / Switch faulty.
          5E40/E0 - Steering angle sensor Signal not plausible, Offset.

LEW   ->  no errors

SRS -> 09/42 - Head airbag (ITS), front left, resistance too high
          Shadow-memory:
          09/40 - Head airbag (ITS), front left, resistance too high

do you have the cats in place?

im thinking maybe the EGT readings are causing the engine to try heat the cats up to keep emissions in check... this could cause the engine to not run as it should...

Yes all cats are still present.

I would focus on trying to clear those EGT faults... it could very well be causing the fueling to be incorrect adjusted...

Where do I start :fencelook:

I as under the impression that the cats where fine due to a previous thread: 46 330 terrible exhaust fumes smell.

Do I replace the sensors or what should I do? I will however replace the fuel filter as well..

Just another note, which I think is relevant, the car has died on me for starvation of fuel (suction jet was at fault). So I am thinking this could have cause the car to suck up some cr@p from the bottom of the fuel tank into the filter?? Come to think of it it wasn't to long after that it originally started..

I have tried clearing the codes but they just pop back up

You can ignore the faults in shadow memory. They are old faults that has been logged. I have exactly the same faults on my 325i.
DME -> Shadow-memory:
5A/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 1, signal line, short circuit to negative
5B/12 - Exhaust temperature before catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative
5D/12 - Exhaust temperature after catalyst, bank 2, signal line, short circuit to negative
The SA cars do not ship with secondary cats and hence the faults in shadow memory.

Do you have any warning lights on the instrument cluster? It looks as though you need to re-initialize the steering angle sensor or you might even need to replace it.

I see, so should I order on from BMW then as well? Or are you just trying to educate me on why it could be the filter?

The filter could be blocked or the FPR could be faulty. Just replace it with one from BMW. I can almost guarantee you that it has never been replaced.

Thanks, I have no faults on the cluster it self, I have done a cluster test to make sure all lights are in working order.

did you have this problem before the suction jet issue?

Suction jet issue was there from the day I bought it, only found out after wards that this is what it was called also from another thread.

The problem was that the car died when it had 20l of petrol still in the tank, another user then explained to me the suction jet (a pipe) going from one side of the tank to the fuel pump was the issue, and that this is what makes sure that both sides are level and that it doesn't stay in the side where the pump isn't getting fuel from, BUT, I haven't fixed this yet as my tank is to full still.

seems like you have a nice bag of tricks in this car :)
if it is dirt hopefully the fuel filter will have caught it...

Haha that seems to be it.. Shit just keeps popping up, but luckily when all this small things are sorted it will be perfect, I guess a normal person could live with all the small things, but I am far from it :rollsmile:

I think the fuel filter change is something I really need to also do at some point for my Wife's 320i along with the Vanos stuffs!! So I gather with the fuel filter change there is a load of fuel to be swimming in while under the car!! Why is BMW so lazy and not just replace these things as they should?!

Getting back to your problem, logically I would say get that fuel filter replaced and see what it does (my old vintage Volvo recently had a problem where it had no power when putting your foot down, changed the fuel filter and you should have seen the muck that came out the other end). Then if the problem persists I would look at replacing the coil packs - roughly R2k for six of them from G-Drive...

I would try Goldwagen in Pta West first. They seem reasonable and they have a lot of the BMW parts in stock. Bemows is also a good place to try. If both of these don't have the fuel filter, you will need to get it from the dealers. They're about R1200.

For that price do they give a tank of petrol as well?? :fencelook:
Kidding, thanks a lot. will give them a call
