E46 330D Auto Durban Trip Report

So I drove to durbs this weekend. below is some feedback.

Downtrip:

I left Midrand at 11:45. got onto the N3 and drove at 120km/h until De Hoek Plaza. from there i switched the cruise control on, indicating exactly 130km / h (which is in fact 125km/h). for the next 400km the car averaged 6.1 L / 100km.

My data got a lil messed up cos from Howick to about Cato Ridge the average speed of travel was 40km / h in bumper to bumper traffic. I dunno what was going on cos its never this busy, not even during holiday periods. No accidents. just alot of traffic...... I think everyone was scared of the average speed prosecution.


Uptrip:

Left durbs at 13:30. got onto the N3, passed the Mariannhill Toll and switched the cruise control on to 130km indicated. Filled up fuel in PMB and reset.

stopped in harrismith @ the Bergview Engen.


Got to Mirdand at approx 19:30 due to some slow sections of roadworks.

had an average fuel consumption of 5.6 L / 100km. Car currently indicates 545km done, with half tank and a further 500km still able to be done.


Other Comments:

The car is awesome. The 330D pull very nicely and was a comfortable drive. I didnt suffer from any back pains, nor was I exhausted from the drive.

Overall a very nice weekend.



Side note:

tested my dads new E350 CDI against my 330D and was given a good hiding. All done on a private test track.

Our Private Test facility is nestled deep within the hills of Mariannhill in Pinetown.

this facility includes shallow to steep inclines, Long sweeping bends, short tight bends, straightaways, and also some government inflicted belgian Pave (pothole dodging). All in KZN.

but you and any other Fanatics are most welcome. LPM320 is familiar with this Test Facility.

Avi tried calling you on saturday night to meet up, no answer on your side. Was waiting to see that 330d man. Anyway, there will be other times.

As for our private test track
Yeah, its great piece of road to test power and handling, lots of sweeps, S-bends and even a top end straight. Although there have been more than a few drivers that have come off 2nd best. Fortunately i know it like the back of my hand. That does help slightly.
