E46 320i Blower not coming on

Now my blower is not coming on. All the controls inside are working and the displays function. I can even hear the flaps, that directs the air, move, but the blower motor is not making any sound and no air comes through the vents.
Engine bay was cleaned when car was serviced.
Guess I'll have to do some troubleshooting.

Probably your final stage resistor (think it is called that) is kaput....common fault

That happened to me before and then all the controls were dead, no lights nada. This time the controls work, just no airflow.
Guess I will have to check that damn hedgehog again.
Really perish the thought of fiddling down there again. Broke a clip last time and now sits with a plastic cover that rattles.

Yeah, some just don't know how to blow properly.
Too bad if you're on the receiving side.

Filled all the vents and she still wouldnt blow.....
:nonono:

:flyfun: that was part of your problem... the rear vent or exhaust vent as its commonly known tends to get bothered when "filled" always best to massage the controls and fill the intake...:biglol:

Now how the F^&k did my problem turn into such a bunch of humorist comments.

Thanks guys, had a good laugh:roflol:

Still sit with the blower problem though. And this is in my car and it's an electronic device.

I have just come back from Somerset West with my 2003 X5 diesel and the aircon blower fan would not come on. The display moves up and down the scale as you push the fan button but there is no air flow at all. Got home, took out the final stage resistor (aka hedgehog) and fitted my E36's fsr and viola!, back to normal. Fan is working, aircon working and all is well! Have phoned the local diesel mechanic/Silverton Radiator agent who i know supplies the Behr/Hella hedgehog and they quoted me R750 vat included, so i ordered one for my X5. Should be here by Tuesday next week. I did not phone around but Goldwagen, Masterparts, Goeie Hoop Motoronderdele and even Midas or Autozone should be able to help you. There is a slight difference between the X5 and the E36 as to where the fsr goes in but i have heard that a local auto electrician sommer cuts off the "spikes" that are in the way!! I ordered the correct one for my X5 though.Btw., the one that fits the E36 was about R845 vat included, but it has a few more "spikes" than the one that came out of the X5. I have heard that the E46, E39 and E53 X5 uses the same fsr Also, wiggle the wires that goes into the plug that fits the fsr just to make sure there is no loose connection as i had this problem on my E36

I have 2 that I ordered from Motormec in the UK. They both lasted a couple of months and then just stopped working. I think I must check the wiring and see if it does not come loose from the shaking. Maybe all I need to do is push the connection in deeper.

No one listens. If there are sings of melting on the plastic housing of the plug you will continue replacing the resistor. What happens is that on 1 or 2 of the pins dont make contact. 100% and causes heat. This heat is then carried directly into the resistor through the thick copper pins and shortens the life of the resistor drastically

Replace the plug an pins. You can get them from BMW. I have part numbers for the plug housing and pins

That is exactly my problem. I removed the plugs (left the hedgehog in place) and saw that was some minor melting of the plastic. I cleaned out the melted plastic and pushed it back. I made sure that I push it in hard and firm. Lo and behold she blows again.

Part nr's and approx price will be appreciated.

Pushing the connection in deeper will not always make it blow... :roflol::roflol:

I knew my choice of words would invoke some naughty comment. Well spotted.:biglol:
Some blowers apparently like it to be pushed in deep, opens up the blowing channels.:roflol::roflol:

Yes pushing it deeper wont help cleaning wont hel for the heat damage to the pins have peen done and they wont be making 100% contact. cut off the old one and replace plug and FSB(hedgehog)

Yes I do have the Part number for the housing and also the New pins that need to be crimped and inserted into the housing. It's an easy DIY. If you in Cape Town I still have an socket housing that you can have

Resistor plug housing P/N: 61138377762
Connector pins X4 P/N: 61131376206
Connector pin for thin wire X1 P/N: 61131376204
