I changed my battery from original BMW raylite battery to an EXCIDE battery during 2007, all similar battery numbers 652C for the Excide and 652 DS for BMW branded Raylite battery. First it was the radio that would dip or go off when i start even when it wasn' t on the watch on the radio display would disappear slight and re-appear after stating the car. The recently during december 2010, the gauge started playing around and for forth. So this past weekend i left the key in the ignition on saturday (big mistake) come monday no power whatsoever, it could not even be jump started. So i shopped around for a battery and got a BMW branded battery from Battery centre for R 905.00 cheaper than what BMW Stealers were asking for. Fitted a brand new battery and now mobile again, every thing seems to work properly again no power dips upon start and the gauge seems stable, don't know whether it my mind but the lights seem a lot brighter. Still watching the gauge though. Owner of Battery centre shop told me that the BMW branded battery has more cranking power than the non branded battery. So, lessons learned.

And oh ja, word of advise apparently one should charge the battery every winter or soon thereafter. Apparently it looses power more in winter than any other time. Maybe that why the stealers charge the battery when you take it for service, makes sense to me.

@boogalo1.... that's quite disappointing of BMW..... I would've thought that their batteries would last longer (unless tempered with), because re-charging a battery every winter seems to be inconveniencing to me..?
Surely technology is advanced enough to manufacturer such batteries? Anyways... #JustAThought

I bought a battery charger and the manual of the battery charger say "a person should charge the battery during winter or soon thereafter as they tend to loose power more". Its for that reason why i said it makes sense to me because the Dealers/Stealers always charge at least from what i have seen with my car the battery when i used to take it for service. I did not get it from BMW. therefore i am saying it makes sense to me because the first battery lasted almost five years. Which is not bad by my standard.
