E46 320d propshaft installation

Hi Guys

I have browsed around quite a bit and browsed other forums as well with little luck. I have purchased a "new" second hand prop shaft for my E46 5 speed manual 320d. I have also bought a brand new centre carrier bearing just in case. Is there anything I should know, any do's and don'ts that I should be aware of when installing the prop shaft. I have heard horror stories about props coming off due to improper installation or crazy vibration breaking other goodies.

The reason for replacing is a worn u-joint which I was told by a number of people cannot be replaced on these prop shafts.

I have replaced a few props on bakkies before but I recon my Beemer would require a bit more finesse. Any advise will be much appreciated.

Thanks

It can bud go to any propshaft place they can cut and weld in a new U joint.

I did mine last year.

Change the Center Carrier one time

While technically is it possible with that technique, more often than not it doesn't work out well. Glad it worked out for you, but this route should be considered with caution.

Thanks for the feedback. However, I already bought the other prop shaft, so will not be going the welding route. I just need to know if there is anything that I should be aware of before installing, or do I just bolt on and good to go? I have heard about "pre-loading' the centre bearings, not entirely sure what this means or if there is anything special I should do when installing the prop shaft. Also, I didn't buy a new guibo as the one currently on the car still look okay. Would you recommend rather replacing it?

Thanks

Think apart from the propshaft, you will also remove a few other thigns to get to it.

I would just double check the torque specs for the bolts. If you have that right, a brand new prop, bearing and guibo, what else exactly, could go wrong?

Hi Guys. Just an update. Replaced the guibo as suggested, also preloaded the centre bearing as suggested to me by @War 320 SPORT in an earlier thread I managed to dig up (thanks for that), all seems fine again. Thanks for the advise guys.
