E46 320D engine replacement

Hi guys, My son want to replace his engine on his 320D F/L 2005 model. It is leaking oil, has no power, and someone suggest he replace it with a 330D engine. My question is, will it fit on his 6 speed gearbox, and will the computer box need replacing?

Will be less hasle to rebuild original motor or replace with the same.

endless hassle, not worth it.. ecu,ews, engine mounts, ect ect.. before you know it, will cost more than just having bought a 330d.. this is besides the fact that the 3liter diesel engines go for around 30k in scrap yards..
not sure, but dont think the gearbox will fit either..

What exactly is wrong with the current one? Is the turbo tired or is it a serious oil leak/consumption?
