It is but the aftermarket pump that caused this damaged had the metal impeller. Once bitten twice shy......sticking with OEM now

Good job Preven:thumbs: When it comes to the e46 cooling system, I would also stick with OEM parts. So far, I've only had to replace my expansion tank and thermostat. What's the price of an OEM waterpump?

Does anyone have any guidelines on the coolant Distelled water mix process and bleeding the system?

Busy putting the pump on and then the belts.

So just bleed through the top and bottom screws on the radiator / expansion tank?

The car is running again. Did the 50/50 mix with engine coolant and distelled water....3 litres of each. Added to the system via the expansion tank whilst controlling the bleeder screw on top to release air. Had to charge the battery for a bit and then started up with heater on full. Let her idle for about 10 minutes to let everything circulate and settle down whilst watching the temp gauge like a hawk. Went to half way and sat there.

So took her for road test and all was well. I did the road test without the viscous or electric fan as this has not been purchased as yet. It is cool in Durban today so all was good but not planning on leaving the car without viscous of electric. The plan is to get a BEHR electric fan from Silverton and have that installed.

The engine is so much quieter now that the idler, tensioner and aircon tensioner pulleys have been changed with the OEM pulleys. Had an aftermarket idler pulley put on not too long ago and it is already kaput.

I did not change the expansion tank as it still looked good when I had it off the car as well as the lower radiator hose. This was to limit to spend as the budget was not expecting this. However they will be changed soon.

Also noted the sway bar linkages look a tad weary when I was removed the bottom splash tray. I am disappointed that the service centre that installed the Meyle HD control arms recently did not point this out.

Other items on the planned to do list
1) Replace oil cap
2) find a solution to the sweating power steering bottle cap - possibly an o-ring on the cap to seal better?
3) proper clean up of the lower / bottom engine section
4) Replace windscreen cowl

It was such a pleasure driving the car without the infamous viscous howl that sounds like a 5E Electric Locomotive :thumbdo:

Well done Prev.

I'd also like to know more about the behr electric fan. Is it slim line? Curved or straight blades?

There is but a hand full of people on here that know what a 5E actually is... I use the same analogy to explain a viscous fan sound...
