Thanks to our local parts Guru Gizmo I am the owner of a E46 328i Shifter, And the extra weight to make my shift shorter.

All that is needed is to get the plastic bushings that are worn out & pop all in.

Will let you guys know how it goes.

Sankekur your brother better come too, I wanna see his car.. I am hoping to have my "Short Shift" Installed by the 10th :) Got a test next wednesday, so thursday & friday will be when I get it done & Hopefully dont stuff it up or something.. Or hopefully I am able to get it back together..

Yeah, as far as I know he is planning to be there.

I am also looking into a short shift for my car. Only problem is that a lot of the DIY's make it seem very easy as they don't mention that you have to remove the exhaust to be able to get to the linkages etc., well that is on my car at least, theres is absolutlu no room as the gearbox is huge.
But i have thought of a way of doing it where I might not even have to jack the car up, but I still have to try it out to see if it will actually work.

Hmm, now you making me scared... I am in no way going to be able to remove the exhaust to do it..

Well I will have a look next week..

I will need to have access under the car, as I am replacing all the bushes & plastic bearings & things for the whole shift assembly, & Not just swopping the shorted gear stick in..

If I get stuck, I will ask for some help :)

It shouldn't be too much of a problem on your car as your gearbox is a bit smaller I think, so access might be a bit easier.
I had a look underneath my car a while back and my center cats are almost directly under the shift linkages, so that doesn't exactly help in terms of access.

Going to try installing NOW, Wish me luck.

If I fail one of you guys will have to come & help me

FAIL :cursin::cursin::cursin::cursin::cursin:

First took me like 15 minutes to get the jack out my car, the stupid red screw thing was broken

Then Jacked up car & tried to get jack stand under it.. Cant jack it high enough with normal jack..

then saw my drainage in the driveway, parked car ontop & removed the grates, climbed in. But still not enough space to work

Will need to get the car on proper jack stands that will supply enough room to work.

Who can help??

any of you can advise?:

I have a non-sunroof E46, and want to fit one, what wud be the cheapest option to foolow ? fit a 2nd hand sunroof unit with h/liner or take it to Webasto ? bare in mind i just want the look, so im not bothered if it slides in the roof or not.... it must just tilt upwards

Best bet to fit a sunroof to non-sunroof car is to sell the car and buy one with a sunroof. Trust me on this I've always wanted a sunroof and done allot of research and its just not worth it:thumb:

Agree with Legacy, rather sell the car and get one with a sunroof if you want one that badly. The whole roof is reinforced at the factory. As far as I know if you go aftermarket sunroof and the car rolls the modded roof wont give any support at all.

Will report tomorrow night about the effects the 328i shifter has on a standard 318i and also what effects changing all the bushes & stuff has on the sloppyness of the shift movement
