Good morning sports fans...

So the next job on my list of preventative maintenance is the crankcase breather valve (CCV) and associated vacuum hose replacement. I have read on various forums that this is the main culprit for the rough idle on the N42 motor. Thing is... the damn thing is in the most awkward position possible, under the intake manifold:cursin:. I really dont want to go poking around down there without knowing EXACTLY what I'm doing.:hammerhead: Does anyone know an independent shop that could do this job for me.. I'm in Durban.

BTW, SMG quote is R 950.00 parts; R 1500.00 labour!!

Manifold will more than likely have to come off, thereafter the CCV should be quite accessible. What better time to get stuck into the DIY'ing :)

The breather valve on my 320d is like R650 from the agents. DIY labour is free. It's easy to get the torque specs for the intake (if you want to be so precise) and further it's all bolt on-bolt off.

I replaced the pipe that runs over the intake into the breather valve. It definately took the rough idle away. I just want to replace the breather valve that this, and two other hoses connect to. I heard if this valve goes (pretty common apparently), it sludges the engine oil!!
Maybe I'm being paranoid, but rather replace a R 500 valve than a R 9000 cylinder head, which is what will be required if the engine oil sludges and destroys the cam and/or eccentric shafts.
