Hi Guys - new on the forum. Just got my 2000 e46 318i. The problem i'm having is that the car switches off at time for no apparent reason. It also have some sort of hesitation going on while driving. Don't have specific times it does it - will have the codes read this afternoon - Has anyone had the same problem. The search function on the list seems to be not working or not picking up a vehicle with the same specs.

Need Help please.......

Spark plugs? Fuel pump? Maybe a dirty fuel filter?

Hi - the diagnosed as being a faulty crankcase vent valve - waiting on stock from Goldwagon. Will let u know if it solve the problem. Had service done so new fuel filter and spark plugs fitted. Hopefully the vent valve will solve the problem.

Thanks

Had the codes read and the intake temp sensor came up. My question is where does this sensor sit on the m43 engin. The car is 318i 2000 pre face. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

This is motor I have - the guy that did the code reading for me was pointing somewhere under the intake for the location of the IAT. He was taking me for a ride then. Thanks Buddy

Maybe something to look at on the switching off issue - I thought my E30 was posessed, did it at exactly the same spot every day, turned out to be the positve terminal on the battery being loose :roflol:

Ok so i got my PA Soft 1.4 scanner yesterday. Got it to work on Win 7. The codes that came up was the following. I just needed to confirm what I already knew and also wanted to play with my new toy lol.

Codes
Signal, hot-film air-mass flow sensor
Activation.A/C compressor
Signal,CAN ASC
REquest CAN EGS
Signal CAN IKE
Signal Road speed
Oxygen-sensor control, control limit
ECU self test, E2PROM emulation
Then misfire with cylinder 1 to 4 and total. Think that came up as a result of the cutout of the car and hesitation.

Can anyone shed some light on some of the other codes.

Sanctuary Much !!!!

Ok it has been a while - this is how far I am with the car. Had the MAF replaced and they done a adaptation or something with some software. The MAF error kept on coming back and car was idling crap. The machy suspected that it might be the DME - so i showed him the invoice that the DME was reprogramed etc. So he looked at the place who done the work. The place is in cape town as the car came from Vredenburg - apparently Continental cars in PE sends their DME's to this place for fixing and the machy(an ex continental employee) knows this place as they had endless problems with DME's fixed by that particular place. So long story short - have to get a replacement DME for the vehicle and hopefully the idling will be fixed as this DME is not reading the throttle position correctly.

Will keep you guys posted once I have found a DME and the chip is swapped over.

Cheers.

Hmm. PM Ratslaaf regarding the DME. He will fix it for you

I'm down in PE - shopping around to see if I cant source one locally. And then take it from there - If all else fails will have to look at maybe doing that.

Saw a DME for my vehicle on the G- Drive Automotive site for R 1135.19 - maybe looking at getting that. Anyone had problems with stuff from these guys?

Thanks

G-drive have gone under but are still taking people's money DO NOT ORDER FROM G-DRIVE!!!!!

Looking at your fault codes indicates a vacuum leak somewhere, be sure to check all pipes and the rubber intake elbow as cracks can form between the bellows.

Is the car automatic or manual?

WRONG!!!!!!
There was a recent thread on this forum about them taking people's money and not sending the goods, many people have been screwed over by them already!

The car is a manual. I checked all pipes and replace the CCV valve and it's pipes. Should maybe have someone else have a look - i had:thumbdo: the carb cleaner all over the engin bay checking for leaks lol - but me no professional. Besides the intake elbow what other pipes can I check. And is the spraying of carb cleaner and listening for a change in the idle an acceptable method of checking.

Great news fanatics - found a full DME kit from Auto Classique in PE(Would recommend him to anyone - Great Service).

Had a drive last night and this morning. Seems to have sorted my problems. Will read the codes after a couple of days driving it and see from there. But for the moment my prob seems to over lol..........

Next on my list of things to sort out - Diff bush some flanges will get replaced and the climate control to be sorted. Then she should be good for a long time..........

Will keep u guys updated.......

Thanks for all the advice and replies. :=):

Ok - it has been a while.

Turned out that the DME swap did not solve my problem. Only after a petrol pump insert, crank sensor and idle actuator change did my problem go away.

Thanks to Jason at Autoclassique. Had the diff bush some water flanges and the climate control also sorted so looks like things are getting there.

Still not happy with the noises coming from the back - but will have to wait for some more moola to get it sorted. All in all the car is running really well.

More updates later. And maybe some pics.
