Just wanted to show you how a thermostat gets replaced on the M5.

The procedure is not very detailed as I lost some of the pics however most of you will get the idea.

Back to the car in question. Vanos just as big a problem on them as with the S54?
Unfortunately so......and in the case of the M5 you need to overhaul 2 units and 8 solenoids...not an inexpensive undertaking

Eish, add in all the other little foibles that will creep up as millage passes on and a E55 looks like a far more economical prospect.

That's typical of the older cooling method - this is one of the reasons why BMW introduced the dreaded electric water pump cooling. The coolant flows through the engine from side to side (at least that's how it on the I6 models, not sure about the V8 models), so the temperatures are constant along all the cylinders.

That's a pity Faisel, as I've given this car a longing look a few times. She does present nicely and is in the correct color. My wife will, however, kille me if I even wonder in this direction anytime soon.

Just a bit of useless info, but did Peter tell you how we swore to get that radio going again? For reference Fordknoppie, many many choice words were uttered by myself and Rhohit to get that radio working again, fixing parts that are now unobtanium. And when we let loose, Peter couldn't help himself and started swearing like a sailor with Tourette's just for effect as well :roflol:
