So......the driver side mirror and base decided to part ways. I'm desperately looking for a replacement. Does anyone have any leads. Decided while I'm at it to fix/replace the rear view mirror. Any help will be appreciated.

Looked back to the beginning of the thread. R300k is almost (ALMOST) a bargain now for a mint M5.
Quite easy to spend upwards of 40k getting them mechanically perfect, and always important to start with a cosmetically perfect one.

I'm really not happy about driving without the mirror but got an offer I could not refuse to replace the shocks. So I drove from the west rand to the east rand. There was an issue on the N12 after the Glen and I had to detour to get to the N17, then I got lost and reached my destination half an hour late.

Was at D & S from 8:30 to 15:45 watched them remove and replace the rear interior. This broke my heart. Decided I should not watch my baby be worked on. Found the rear stabilizer bracket had broken and Ash arranged for it to be welded as an interim measure also ended up paying less than I expected and best of all my brake shudder is gone.

:ty: to Ash and team did a wonderful job and had no issues with me shoulder surfing them and improved the ride considerably. All the difficulties of the day were forgotten on the way home when I found the ride was softer. No more crashing over bumps and what a pleasure to brake with no drama. The brakes even seem to bite better. :rollsmile:

Will definitely recommend Koni and D and S. Now to sort out my mirror and stabilizer bracket then she'll be close to perfect.

do the other model e39 brackets/motor not fit...yes i know the shape is different but are the internals.....do the 46ms not use the same,I'm just asking :sorry:

To be honest, I don't know. Haven't seen anywhere where someone changed the bracket. Seems like once it's done, it's done... Replacement mirror time.

I went through the same exercise, the bracket is made from a rare metal called unobtainium. And because inevitably the death of an M5 is backwards through the bush; the mirrors rarely survive.

I had a bracket made... still some work required to get it fully functioning.

I have a mirror... it is a flat plate of glass and was a fix a previous owner did. It "works" but is not the OEM paraboloc glass.

Had a chance to look at what I spent so far. Let's just say that it's considerably more than that. Money well spent though. I could be wrong, it seems that these e39s are very costly to get back into good condition. Maintaining them seems reasonable

Not wishing to be that guy but am I the only one that noticed that the car was advertised for sale in 2013 at 95000Kms and was sold via Dadas in 2016 at 98000Kms.

I would seriously consider asking questions of them about the trueness of the odometer

I actually went to see the car in 2013 and ended up buying it in 2015. The issues I identified in 2013 were the same ones I negotiated on when I bought the car. That does not guarantee the mileage, just the condition.

My limited experience is that with older cars you have items that while not broken, have aged. Which means they're no longer effective and need to be replaced. The previous owners usually don't notice as the vehicle gradually is not as agile, as quick etc. I usually don't know that the car is capable of better until I've lived with it for a while. Then I need to replace this and that.

Except for the mirror....:RedNo: I picked up that it wasn't sturdy in 2013. I didn't know that there's no fix and I'd have to replace the mirror. Actually I didn't think it would cost so much to replace.

For the mirror, have you tried looking for one on fleabay or on one of the overseas sites?

There is a dude in Benoni that might be able to help you out, his name is Timothy, found some rarer than rocking horse poo from him in the past. Shoot me a pm and I'll send you his details.

Managed to sort out the exterior mirror. Now need to fix the interior one. Then to wait for the people to return from holiday before I do the alignment. Everything is coming along nicely.
