E39 Boot Actuator

Hi guys

On my BMW 530i e39 2001 model, the boot does not open using the key, the button on the driver's door and also the button on the boot itself. I have searched and checked the net what the problem could be and all directions lead to the actuator.

Can someone please help me find a price for this? Does anyone here know how much an actuator can cost me?

I hate driving a car with minor faults or with faults all round...

Your bets bet would be to look at breakers. Look for e39s being broken for spares.

Called a few, they are still checking and will get back to me. But I would also like to know how much one costs so i can budget and not let anyone rip me off

Phone a BMW dealer and give them your VIN - they will give you a price on a new one, which should be your worst case price point.

Jesus Christ!!!!! R2051 for such a small thing. And they say they have to order from Germany, nothing in the country.

However, not for the boot unfortunately.

BTW, I was in the same boat as you not too long ago. I needed to replace 2 of my door actuators (almost R4k in total) and I ended up importing a full set instead - that why I have extras.

I can help you with original part.

I had an issue where my boot open light kept coming on and so bought a new boot lock with actuator from BMW.

I will attach pic if required

Part number on the box

Material: 51-24-8-236-897
TRUNK LID ACTUATOR E39

It turns out that my problem was the emergency release cable was too tight and was setting the dash light off.

R 1200.00 should do the trick

I am based In Edenvale.

This is what makes owning an E39 a nightmare sometimes and not for the faint-hearted.

Why?

The part is available, its just not ex stock.
I've never had an issue getting a part I needed from the dealer and there are second hand parts if thats your thing.

What I have found is that the Scrapyards that I have called are not interested in the e39, shall we say the specialist BMW ones, as they consider it too old.
Not even interested in buying them for parting.
Perhaps thats just the one or two I spoke too.
I was surprised, I would have thought that parts would be desirable on older vehicles.

I see plenty really nice e39's still driving around and its always really nice to see good ones.
Ive seen a silver one around Edenvale that looks amazing.

You see the odd wreck too.

I was at HM Auto for an indicator bulb the other day and they couldn't believe the condition of my e39 530d.

Anyway, I have decided to withdraw the sale on the part to the original poster on principle.

He needed help, I offered him a brand new part for half price, apparently he likes his vehicle in perfect condition, and he hasnt had the courtesy to contact me.

I can only conclude the Scrapyard is his supplier of choice.

It just irks me somewhat, when you go out of you way to take a photo, have to send it to your laptop so that you can get it onto the forum, for someone who first of all I found objectionable in using the expletive JC.

Really not necessary and then not having the courtesy to follow up on his request.

So I will keep it for some other forum member more deserving or even myself.

I preferred to call you when I have the money in hand, because I had to speak to my wife regards to funds.

Thanks for the offer and I understand your withdrawal of selling the part to me and I respect your decision. I would have preferred to buy YOUR part as it's new and I really do not prefer second hand parts as you don't know whether they working or not.
