If this thread is still recent, I would suggest you get the PCV valve. My 528i had a cracked cylinder head two years ago and a friend of my cousin who works at a dealership did the work of taking off the head, having it stitched welded (cracked in two places) and fitting it again after pressure testing, valve lapping, etc. He replaced the pcv valve at the same time, as well as the thermostat and waterpump. Cost me about R7k at the time, of which R1k was for labour - a bargain.
Car has been running like a swiss watch. Done about 40k km since then. Got some of the parts at Masterparts, etc. PCV valve was geniune BMW though. I think i have seen fan clutches at Masterparts, so i am sure you will be able to get that at Midas/Autozone or elsewhere for about R600

Soloman,

Yup thread is still recent. Was out of action for a while, just didn't have the money...

I bought the PCV valve and hoses, will collect them on Wednesday. Bought the Viscous fan as well. Quite expensive at the stealers but I wanted peace of mind. CR Auto said they have one for R700 (new, so they say...) but I want do do everything right with the cooling system and be done with it. We're heading into summer and the last thing I need is to be stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, 32 deg, a/c on, and then see the temp gauge go to red...

Next; Sports springs + shocks, front wheel bearings, strut brace...
