E39 BMW 523i urgent advice needed.

My sister has the opportunity to swap her 2005 daihatsu charade for a E39 523i.

I don’t know the Km on the BMW. I see that on the screenshots she sent the person is asking R38k for the car. It looks clean and drives well.

What do the guys here think of the car. Is it problematic. Are there any BIG repairs they all tend to go through? Or are these solid reliable cars?

Nobody would swap a good e39 for a Daihatsu.
My guess somethings not good on that e39.

Hard to tell without pics and actually seeing the car.

Generally a well maintained e39 is bullet proof. Just the cooling system needs attention every 100 000km or so.

If it hasn't been maintained its going to be a nightmare and very very expensive.

Were it worth anything I doubt they would be looking for 38k..imo.

The fuel costs alone are going to be at least double the Daihatsu.

Getting the car just reasonable will exceed the asking selling price.

Who give a great car away for 38k?

Were it my sister I would make sure she stayed far away.

It can only end in tears.

Then again the 523 wasnt a great option new.

Black interior but with grey seats...fishy. I found the 525i to be rather underpowered, this will be worse so it will drink fuel.

Ps, that car has been floating around facebook for months for sale, no-one is buying it for a reason.
