E39 540iM Crank Vent - Questions

My E39 540/6 went in for it's first oil service since I bought it, so I ask the agents to do a diagnostics on it at the same time.

Diagnostics reports the following, verbatim: "Worked through test schedule. Found Oxygen Sensor, crank vent & pipes & MAP cooling faulty. Quoted to replace."
On the report card, they say that "crank vent to be fitted first & then only further diagostics".

My question. What symptoms will I experience from the above faults? What will I find or feel while driving? Is the BMW quote of R 7,809.58 to fix worth it, or can this be a DIY project? Their cost includes, inter alia, R1,198.05 for a thermostat, R 1,132.52 for a "profile gasket", as well as R 1,021.73 for an "Intake Manifold" - amongst other rather pricey bits.

Can this stay as is, should it be repaired ASAP, what's it doing/causing, etc, etc.

Any help/advice out there?

Thanks.

Crankcase breather is an issue.

It could lead to internal pressurization of the crank case which could push out seals and stuff, as well as cause the engine to sludge...

You could DIY this.... Intake I would just clean

LOL, very unnecesary cost ...

just take off your manifold .. clean it with parafin and those long tyre cleaning brushes (you can buy them at game) ...
buy a PCV valve from Bemow spares in pretoria .. it should be original and half the price too.. I think bmw's is around R 700 or so

if you got a cooling map faulty error, it 95% of the time means your Auxiliary/AC Fan is burnt out (that noisy electric fan in the front of the car) ... and they are DAMN expensive.

I would just take off the manifold, clean all the pipes/parts and replace the PCV valve... the rest is not neccesary
when you put the manifold back, clean all the rubber gaskets, and then smear some red rubber grease on all the gaskets to make them seal nicely (buy red rubber grease from midas, etc..)

This is a list of the parts they quoted me for.

Oil Seperator x 1 @ R502
Breather Pipe x 1 @ R235
Connector x 1 @ R304
O-Ring x 1 @ R35
Intake Manifold x 1 @ R896
Profile Gasket x 1 @ R45
Profile Gasket x 1 @ R45
Profile Gasket x 4 @ R248 each
Breather Pipe x 1 @ R337
Thermostat x 1 @ R1051
Antifreeze x 3 @ R44 each
Labour @ R2593

All the above for a blocked crank vent pipe and MAP cooling fault?

hmmm...
