lol, m3nace ! sup dood..

looks like Alpine White is popular ! LeMans pulling in clean second, but its interesting to see who says I should keep it the same :)
to be honest, it will probably be easier to respray LM blue than white, but White will be eleet !

still unsure on this..

Well clutchy... I dig your color,

Your paint job looks dull at the moment, as you said with all the botched repairs, but in its original state.:dropjaw:

Also, its not very common, so I would go back to stock... AND buy a alphine white E39 M5 :slap:

I dig the current col :)

yeah I guess so. it is quite nice. I just want Alpine White :/
and this car is right to modify now cause its paid off. ready to twin turbo. I don't want two E39's, and if I sell the 540 and buy an M5, I'm stuck with a repayment again. which sucks
also, the 540 has thicker cylinder walls than the M5, so M5 engine will be weaker when turbo'd.. just doesn't make sense to buy an M5 right now.

so I guess the options are narrowed down,
1. fix current paint
2. go LeMans Blue (easier than white)
3. go all out (alpine white)

?

OK.. so I was wrong, my paint seems to be a mix.. which is weird. I think I now know why ubers 520's paint looks different..
mine is Orient Blau Metallic / Dunkel Blau (317 / 5) ... written on the body tag like that. not just Orient Blau..

SO. after seeing these pictures, now knowing how good my car will look with its current paint and the wheels I want. I think the decision is made :)

My mind is made up 90% on keeping it this colour and just getting a professional respray.
Alpine White is still a possibility.. :) but its a long shot now ..

I voted white but if its dark now, keep it that way... imagine strippinjg down to just the body so when you open the engine bay you don't see blue!!!

P.S estorial blue... well its just so sexy

I've done a colour change on a car (was a Porsche and it NEEDED to be red - turned out a real eye catcher). A colour change is a LOT more work than just respray, and will cost a lot more. To do it right the engine needs to come out and ALL trimmings(but trimmings should be done with any respray IMO). I say step one is to get a quote from a very good paint shop for both options - current colour and Alpine white and then decide.

nah, my uncle is doing it. only paying for materials, he's a real pro, you should see his stuff ! its insane... plus gonna do most of the prep work myself anyways.. and the trimmings will all be redone anyways.
I'm not TOO scared of taking the car appart for white.. but I know it will be ALLOT more time and effort..

Prep work is by far the most work. I put in 15 days @ ~13hours a day. Paintwork was only a couple of hours, including masking, but then there were a couple of dents and one rusted fender I had to cut and replace a piece. And the clearcoat was very thick and hard. You might change your mind about going down to bare metal...

yeah, I'm not going white, I think I've made up my mind. Its not going to bare metal.. that is unnecesary now I guess... oh well...
Colour is staying Orient Blau Metallic / Dunkel Blau ... thanks for all the input guys :) I think when the E39 is done, my next project will be an E90 or E92 V8 .. which will DEFINITELY be Alpine White.

at least I have my cousin here, so I have an extra pair of hands..

let the games begin ... :drink:
