E39 540i 6 Speed sound system help

Hi Guys
I please need help locating the OEM amplifier for the sound system, as I want to "tap" into the wires and add an aftermarket amp with sub. The vehicle has a built in car phone. according to the net they recon the amp should sit in the rear arch where the cd changer is, but unfortunately there is no amp located there.
there is however a 6 shuttle cd changer as well as the device to where the sim card inserts for the car phone. see attached pic.

but on my e39 the amp is on the right by the bat,yours is probablythere or just to the right of the cd shuttle

hahah no I didn't, the reason I mentioned its a 6 speed is because its a local assembled bmw, 1998 model and I know South Africa they tend to put electrical part in different places, I have however looking on the right near the battery there is no amp there. attached it a pic of where the "overseas" models amp placement is.

am not sure on the e39, but the e60 std sound did not have an amp, it ran off the Headunit. My car has no amp in the back of the car. Is it not similar on the e39?

My E39 original amp is sitting by the 6 cd shuttle.

That silver box above your battery looks like your amp, as that's what mine looks like :fencelook:


I had a friend help me install an aftermarket sub and amp. We couldn't disconnect the original amp without fear of messing up the entire vehicle's electrical system :lmoa:

You'll see what I mean as soon as you start installing your new amp.

So both amps are installed, and I just mounted the new amp on the back of the sub box :thumbs:
