e39 530d Suspension

Had the original problems of diesel leaks etc sorted.

Car has now done 216k and I enjoy the torque and open road cruising, daily commute of 150km return.

What needs attention is the suspension, serious feedback, shuddering on steering under braking. The technician says that contol arms are worn.

I know want to have the front and rear? suspension repaired/refurbished.

Any suggestions on replacement parts, control arms, and shock absorbers.

This car is made for the open road, it has got looong legs.:rollsmile:

brake disk variable thickness, more commonly miss-described as warped disks, would also give shuddering under braking, and applified by worn front suspension componenets.

I think the first thing to do is have the car put on a lift and the suspension checked thoroughly.

You can probably buy everything you need from Moranor on this forum. It would make sense though to only replace what is necessary though. Otherwise you will be in for like R20k

I had the upper control arms replaced and the front disks skimmed.

The car now drives and handles like a real BM:=):

Skimming disks won't last long. I suggest you start looking for pads and disks. If you go aftermarket spray them with anti rust spray (not the part which makes contact with the disk). Otherwise they rust...

We skimmed disks on my dads e class. After a couple months it developed the worst shudder I've ever experienced

The skimmed disks eventually showed the same problems and was replaced with Miele new disks.

Very happy with results.:=):
