the 330 is awesome also and might be slightly cheaper on petrol. although, i did a trip once in my 540 from jhb to PE, got 8.9litres per 100km, driving speedcontrol all the way. normally its between 9 and 10.5 litres/100km long distance. city traffic between 12 and 16, depending on how busy it is.
I havn't done TOO much to mine yet, but with the mods that I did it made a big difference, I did a full custom freeflow exhaust, all 4 cats gone, got 2 cowley performance mufflers. ask anyone thats heard it, it sounds Mental ! ... also I have a dastek unichip. before the mods it dyno'd 202kW, at 224,000km on the clock, NOT bad since stock was 210kW. after the dyno with the exhaust and chip of 202kW, I got 231.1kW .. I'm busy fitting a manual gearbox to it, the one that comes in the 540i motorsport and M5 with a custom lightweight flywheel and custom racing clutch, should make a MOER of a difference. the 540i manual gets 0-100 in 5.6 seconds, the auto 0-100 in 6.2 or 6.1 seconds. not sure what my 0-100 speed is at the moment.
but honestly, you can play just as hard with the 330 as you can with the 540. just gonna be a personal choice for you.
watch out for the jhb meet videos coming up, you will hear what my car sounds like.
