E39 525Ti Alternator

Hi everyone,

my dad's E39 525Ti's alternator has given up. The problem is he stays in Knysna and cannot exactly drive to any larger city to get it replaced.

I am trying to buy the alternator in Cape Town so I can send it there for him.

It is a 2002 525Ti (2.5 litre 6 cylinder). The alternator is a 120A Bosch

I want to avoid getting the part from BMW directly (way too expensive). Prefably, I am looking for an alternator from a stripped car or a rebuilt one. Any advice where I may be able to find this part?

I understand thr transport is an issue, but there has to be somebody there that does altenator rebuilding.

Unless the altenator kinda ate itself from the inside, it is repairable, usually just bearings, brush's, and or regulator..
