E38 Seats in E34

So having done another long trip today in the E34, those seats have got to go, they are really uncomfy, and the lumber support is horrid. Ok fine I am spoilt by the E65, but still....

I have been doing some research on the E38/E39 seats, and I can only see a minor modification is needed to fit the base. Does anybody in JHB have a spare E38/E39 seat that I can loan to take measurements.

If the mounting rails are spaced the same as the E34, this would be a really easy mod and requires just a bit of grinding and tapping a new mounting hole.

Try to get your hands on a set of the the E39 sport seats like I have, they are so supportive and comfortable would be ideal. I think they are even so much nicer than the E39 M5 seats, they really are amazing.

The set I have is manual not electric and featherweight light so one can dump about 150 kilos off the weight of the car.... makes a difference.

Everybody who sits in them comments how really nice they are, but I think they are a bit rare, try anyway, must be some around and they would look "natural" in an E34.

Ya Rick,

They are seriously nice. There are plenty available and I know of a very nice set in grey nogal, and I can get the guy down in price, what I just want to see is if the rail width are the same before I blow 2k.

The E34 uses that C clip at the bottom to hold the front down, so I can just cut that off and see if I can tap a hole, but thats on the conditions that the rails are perfectly the same width, I can make a plan if the mounting holes do not line up, but if the track widths are differant, I am not too sure I am going to go that route, or have to change my planning.

So I am looking for a scrap first :)

OH well, thats for another day, I am busy playing with some injectors today, fancy that :)

@Leonard Does Ian not have a set of E39 electric seats for R1500 ? He could measure them for you , centre distance from front to back holes and rail width .
Badaz87 recently asked if E36 seats fit E30 , I measured both and they differ . The work would not be worth it in that case .
Would electric E39 seats fit E36 ?

Don't know about e39 seats in e36, however e46 seats fit into an e36. I did this on my e36.

Tankies guys...

I think I am going to go buy the crap seats from Bemow's and compare that to an E34 rail. So off to Bemows for me I guess....

I know for a fact that the rail of the E34 seat and the E39/E38 are differant, the E34 have a C - Clip for the front and just two torx screws at the back where the E38 has 4 screws, but that we can get past I am sure.

Will let ya guys know how I go with this...

Getting rather broke nowadays with that E34, fitted some lucas injectors today, and bought new rear shocks... the joys of being an enthusiast :)
