E36 Windscreen wipers-ANGER

So gents on my E36 328i Ayuto I had an odd problem. My windscreen wipers used to periodically stop working altogether and while rolling i would turn the car off totally, put the wipers on to highest speed and turn the car on and they would magically work again.

Last nite they stopped working and i tried the trick, nothing! Checked the fuse, 100% fine. So i disconnected the battery, reset the system and still nothing.

So i stripped the cubby out because i could hear a "clicking" behind the cubby area, found the box that does the windscreen wipers opened it up and the little bushes are all in good nick and select when you turn the wipers on. And yet the wipers wont wipe!!

HELP PLEASE!!

Is there a printed circuit board in that box?

If so, you may need to re-solder the contacts where the relay is soldered onto the PCB. The relay works but the power is not getting through a dry joint.

I have experienced the same issue on an e39, it was the windshield wiper relay that was at fault, swapped it out and the car was good as new.

I have a similar problem in my e36 328i, when i use the wipers for a few minutes they would just stop, changing the wiper speed after it stopped does nothing. All that gets it working again is to pull over, switch the car off and start it again then the wipers work again for a while. I've had my wiper control unit's pcb checked for dry joints and re soldered, although I still have the problem. I should probably just get a new unit but i think they are pretty expensive :/

I had a similar issue in my e36 328i. Ran around in circles with relays and auto electricians until i decided to just replace the wiper motor. Been over a year now and no issues since. Its worth checking out your wiper motor as well....
